Cooking Pumpkin Pizza with Miss Mary and Nature Tour with Farmer Jones at Alta Vista Gardens

November 9th, Kids in the Garden Class from 10am to Noon

Alta Vista Gardens is starting our fifth year of getting kids outdoors to learn about their environment, nature, gardening, and to share art and music.

Join us this month at our Kids in the Garden class to do a bit of fall cooking: we’re making pumpkin pizza! We just might get some inspiration for what to do with our pumpkins after Halloween. After cooking, we will tour the 15-acre Gardens to experience animals and plants in their natural habitats.

Class time is from 10 am to 12 noon. Adults are free and welcome to join us.

Your registration for the class covers your visit to the Children’s Garden: the new Enchanted Garden Tube Tunnels, Fall Fun Festival scarecrows, the fantastic Children’s Music Garden, the Dino Dig, and the Incredible Edibles Garden.

Class fee is $5 per child for two hours of FUN and LEARNING – accompanied adults are free! When you join and buy a family membership in Alta Vista Gardens, the monthly Kids in the Garden class is FREE for a year. Donations are gratefully accepted.

Pre-registration with Farmer Jones is required so we have enough food … contact farmerjones@altavistagardens.org or call (760) 822-6824. Farmer Jones is a retired elementary teacher with 28 years’ experience in the classroom. She is a Master Composter who has been working in school gardens and children’s gardens for 40 years.

Volunteers Needed – Meals-on-Wheels

The impact that Meals-on-Wheels has on the seniors we serve goes far beyond the wholesome meals provided. Daily friendly contact also provides important socialization for those who may be isolated with little or no connection to the outside world. Lives are often saved in the course of delivering meals when a person does not respond to a knock on the door, has fallen or may have become ill. For over 52 years, Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. has contributed to the overall well-being of seniors by providing regular nutrition and daily contact with a caring volunteer.

We’re in need of volunteers in Escondido, Valley Center, Oceanside, and Fallbrook area. Learn more at www.meals-on-wheels.org or call North County Service Center (760) 736-9900.
